Greens Renovation Update

The recent greens renovation was carefully scheduled around the weather forecast. With limited windows of opportunity, we condensed all of the work into a single day.

The greens were scarified to a depth of 20mm to remove as much organic matter as possible from just below the surface. We had originally planned to use 9mm solid tines, but this was adjusted to 6mm solids. With only one day available, it was felt that filling the larger holes would have placed too much pressure on the team.

Following this, we overseeded with a dimple seeder using creeping bent seed – a superior grass species chosen after expert consultation. The greens were then top-dressed, and the sand brushed in, with Mother Nature now helping us along.

An organic slow-release fertiliser will soon be applied as a blanket feed, followed by a liquid feed in the coming days. These will provide a boost to the turf, which has been under stress in recent weeks due to weed killer applications and repeated heavy verticutting to weaken the pearlwort. We hope this work has successfully eradicated the problem.

Elsewhere, progress continues with the new mound and bunker. Turfing has already begun, and the seeded mounds are showing signs of growth. We aim to have the area fully turfed in the next few weeks.

Weather permitting, tee renovations will also be carried out soon. This will include spiking, overseeding, top-dressing, and feeding to take advantage of favourable conditions before winter sets in.

As always, if you have any questions, please drop Nick an email or speak to a member of the team.
