Aintree Racecourse has been home to the Randox Health Grand National since 1839 and has become the world’s most famous steeplechase and has witnessed unforgettable moments throughout its history such as Lottery, who became the first winner of the race to Red Rum’s historical three victories in the 1970’s. A record which still stands.

The race creates legends and household names for generations to come. Who could forget Tiger Roll’s magnificent back-to-back victories and most recently Nick Rockett’s dramatic 2025 triumph, who won at odds of 33-1 before tens of thousands of spectators.

Of course, it’s not just horses who are remembered. Jockeys are just as much of a story as the horses. Tony McCoy, one of the greatest jockeys to have ever rode, took 15 attempts to win the race before being victorious aboard Don’t Push It in 2010. Arguably, the most famous jockey to win the race was Rachael Blackmore. Her victory on Minella Times really was a moment of history in 2021, as she became the first female jockey to win the race in its history.

Apart from the racing, fashion plays an integral part in the Grand National event, in particular Ladies’ Day. This day is one of the most popular days in the racing calendar and Ladies (and men) from all over the world come to Aintree to take part in competitions and create memorable moments both on and off the track.

Whilst the Grand National is the jewel in Aintree’s crown, it continues to be a hub of excitement throughout the year with other race meetings and live music events which are just as important. Both Becher Chase day and Grand Sefton day are vitally important for trainers and horses to take part in the races over the Grand National Fences. The recently added Boxing Day race meeting has proved incredibly popular for race-goers looking to shake off any Christmas Day hangovers.
